WAVE FOUR

Wave Four would have been both exciting to collectors and definitely a nail in TJ's coffin had it not already been canceled. Blue Beetle has long been a fan favorite character that had already narrowly missed getting a figure in the great Super Powers line of the 1980s. It would take over 2 years after the line was canceled, but he finally got his figure! Dr. Polaris carried on the TJ tradition of at using relatively obscure villains, and it was also the first time that he had gotten a figure. Unfortunately, the assortment was rounded out by another Flash and Green Lantern, whose first figures were still hanging around shelves.
Granted, all the sculpts were nice and Flash even has his buddy the Atom, but it would have been nicer to see Supergirl or Martian Manhunter round out wave 4. An interesting sidenote on the Beetle: His head was molded in translucent yellow plastic then painted to make his goggles appear clear. This type of process is usually used in "light-pipe" figures with a space in the back of the head to let light shine through. Was this planned, and just not used for cost reasons? Techgear had been planned but was dropped because of cost in any case.
As of this writing, this is truly the end of TJ. The rumored 5th assortment may have included Supergirl, Martian Manhunter, Robin 2 and Prometheus, but its anyone's guess whether or not design work got far enough along for sculpts.
