TJ COLORING BOOK

tjcover.jpg - 48.7 K

One of the only licensed products to be released other than the figure line, this coloring book surfaced sporadically around the country. It is of chief interest mainly for the glimpse into what may have been in the future of the action figures.

While showcasing the designs of the figures that did get made, the book also highlights characters that were both known to be considered for the line, and others that are a complete surprise. The telling hint that these may have been considered for future use by Kenner is that they all have consistent "Techgear" throughout the book, even though it was drawn by many different artists. This leads us to believe that there was a style guide for the charcters that was designed by either DC or Kenner, and if the figures had been made that these modifications would have been canon.

Clockwise from top: Supergirl, Martian Manhunter, Superboy, Oracle, Steel, Wonder Woman, and Blue Beetle.

Blue Beetle was known to be slated for the 4th assortment before it was cancelled, and Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter had long been rumored to be under consideration, even though the rights to Wonder Woman were still tied up at Mattel.

We have since seen most of these figures released, either through the JLA line or the exclusives sold online through Hasbro. Was Supergirl, Manhunter or Oracle ever considered for production in Total Justice with new sculpts as well? Only time will tell the answer.

Thanks to Jeff Cope for the coloring book!
