Packaging & Figure Mock-Ups

First revealed by Tomart's Action Figure Digest # 24 nearly nine years ago, these items were reported to be a strong reason that Kenner won the DC license. Demonstrating a faithful "artist friendly" approach, the sample packaging was heavy on the official artwork, and prominently showcased DC's own logo, which curiously was nowhere to be seen on the eventual package design. Thankfully, the final design would be much more striking and colorful.

In addition, Kenner also made some rough samples of their "ace in the hole": an action feature in every figure. Master of the Universe was riding high for Mattel at the time, and Kenner felt it had to have similar features in their pitch. This was demonstrated by adding a thumb wheel to an existing Mego Pocket Hero Batman, making him "punch" his fist when the wheel was turned. They also repainted a Star Wars figure into Captain Marvel, and attached a "flying rod" to his back. For the female figures, they repainted some Glamour Gals. This photo also showcases the concept for the mini-comics.
