Cyborg's Crawler has one of the most interesting histories
of all of the never produced concept pieces. First designed
in the early years of the line as the "Evil Cat Crawler",
it stayed unproduced mainly due to Catwoman never being
included in the line. She had been part of the original
pitch, but for one reason or another was never actually
designed. However, the concept art below was created in
her signature colors. A year or so later, the design was
modified and presented again, this time in the odd blue/orange
color scheme, which doesn't really match any one character.
A function drawing was also created to show how the side
pods could trap a figure.
This attempt, too, did not lead to an actual product. Finally,
the design was once more revamped to incorporate details
from the then in production Cyborg figure. The front "claw"
was changed, and extra mechanical hands for the figure were
added. This would have been a very nice 'plus-up" for
the character had it been made. Since Cyborg was getting
a second figure in the Power Plus line, it made sense to
continue promoting the character. This time the design went
as far as engineering drawings being started, as show directly
below. Sadly, this is where the process ended. The possibility
exists that a "works like" model or even a sculpted
prototype exists, but as of yet nothing concrete has surfaced.
