Blue Devil had long been rumored to be a part of the
line, in
large part due to the editor of the comic, Alan Gold,
stating that he would be getting a figure in the letter
column of issue #18. The big surprise was that not only
was he going to be included in the line, but that two
of his villains of the time, Shockwave and Metallo, were
also going to be made! Looking at the artwork above, you
have to wonder what his "power" was going to
be: wacky stumbling action? Slip on the wet floor action?
Dance like Kevin Bacon action? Who knows? One of the more
intriguing aspects of this is that while today's toy buyers
get scared of names with "devil" in then, Blue
Devil's inclusion opened the door to figures of Deadman
or Etrigan, the Demon down the road had the line continued.
It's interesting that at least one of the villains was
sculpted when the line was cancelled, but no evidence
has yet surfaced of a Blue Devil prototype. Still, if
any more do show up, odds are pretty good the Devil will
be one of them. Sadly, Blue Devil has fallen out of favor
and is no longer the hot character he was circa 1985.
