Mr. Miracle/ Big Barda

Son to Highfather of New Genesis, Scott lost his mother to Steppenwolf, an Apokolips warrior. To make a deal for peace between both planets, Highfather gave his son to Darkseid in exchange for Orion, his own son. Granny Godness gave him the name of Scott Free and raised him as a warrior. Scott, however, longed for peace, and with the help of Big Barda, who was born with a extreme strength and grew up to an astonishing height to lead the Female Furies, he escaped to Earth. On Earth, Scott made friends with Thaddeus Brown, a circus artist specialized in escaping, who was preparing to retire as Mr. Miracle, but he was murdered by a gangster named Steel Hand, and Scott assumed his role to avenge Brown, capturing his killer. Then, helped by Thaddeus's former pal Oberon, he began to act as Mister Miracle, using the advanced New Genesis technology in his performances. Darkseid's hordes tried to take him back or kill him, but he finally earned his right to be free by a combat trial in Apokolips, marrying Barda and trying to live a normal life.

This two-pack not only gives us the sought after Mr. Miracle figure, but also a Barda with removable helmet and a semi-articulated Oberon. The scale is out of whack (both are far larger than other DCD, with Barda the tallest figure in the whole line) and they have trouble standing even though they come with aero disks that snap onto their feet. The paint jobs are very glossy for some reason, against the general look of other DCD figures. I would almost swear that Miracle's sculpt used the old black Spidey figure from Toy biz for the torso and the arms from a savage land Angel. Oberon is a nice addition to the 2-packs, and has shoulder and neck articulation. This set, however, exemplifies what really bugs me about the industry today. It is soooo close, but to have it not be as good as it could be (and the likelyhood of DC ever making these characters again is slim) just peeves me. Yes, I bought it anyway, and yes, it isn't overall a bad set. But it's not a great set, and I expect more from DC after hitting such high notes with "Hard Travelin' Heroes" and the JSA figures.
