Junior high school student Wally West, president of Blue Valley, Nebraska's Flash Fan Club, was visiting his aunt Iris in Central City and her boyfriend Barry Allen. Barry offered to introduce Wally to the Flash -- in costume, he explained to Wally the accident which gave him his powers, when suddenly it reoccurred, granting Wally the same abilities! Barry took him into his confidence, and made him his sidekick, Kid Flash. Wally was a founding member of the Teen Titans. Unfortunately, the accident had a slightly different effect on Wally's adolescent body. He developed a disease which would kill him if he used his speed. A blast of energy during the Crisis -- the same war in which Barry sacrificed his life -- cured Wally of this disease, but left him with a top speed roughly that of sound.
This is a pretty nice figure, although the pose is a little stiff. Unfortunately, they also decided to not paint over the colored molded plastic, giving him a more shiny, tranlucent look that is inconsistent with the flat colors of some of the other figures, making him not really fit in next to Starfire. This problem reaches it's zenith with the Miracle/Barda 2-pack. But ever since I read the Teen Titans book in the early 1980s, I always wanted a Wally West figure. And now I have one, but am strangely unsatisfied. Isn’t it curious how we Americans are? And hey, where are his ankle joints? There, now it's out of my system. |
