Police scientist Barry Allen was struck by lightning in his lab one night, splashed with chemicals from a nearby cabinet. He found he could run at super-speed. Inspired by Jay Garrick, Allen adopted the identity of the Flash, quickly becoming a celebrated hero. The Flash possessed the power to move at superhuman speed, and could attain the velocity of light. His superhuman endurance enabled him to run great distances without tiring. It was once said that the Flash and the Kid Flash could run seven times around the world in a minute. Wally West, nephew to Barry's girlfriend Iris, became his partner when the accident somehow repeated itself; it has since been speculated that Barry unconsciously caused the accident to occur through his link to the Speed Force. Barry Allen was a founding member of the Justice League of America, and brought Jay Garrick out of retirement. Wally was a founding member of the Teen Titans, and eventually changed his costume as he grew up. Barry eventually was killed saving the Universe during the Crisis, and Wally took his place as the Flash in Barry's honor. |

This 2-pack is long awaited, at least the Barry Allen was. After being passed over in the last few DC lines, we finally have the first silver age Flash since Super Powers. And it was well worth the wait; this is probably one of the most perfect figures DCD has unveiled yet. A big improvement over the prototype, this figure is near perfect with ball-jointed shoulders and a new unique ball jointed neck. Some folks have missed the ankle joints, but since they tend to weaken I'm happy they were left off. Wally is another fantastic surprise. Many people, me included, were not too thrilled with the inclusion of the young Wally in this pack, but this sculpt is incredibly nice. This is definitely a case of the sculpt alone making this figure worth having. I especially love his scale; if all DCD were this size I would have no hesitation about buying every single one. As if those figures weren't enough, we also get the Cosmic Treadmill that allowed the Flash to travel through time. It has no working parts, but does include a leg bracket that lets you pose the figure as if he was running. And that's not all! We also get a replica of the Flash's ring, with has a hidden compartment for his compressed costume. One of the things I'm most impressed about is that they finally have started crediting the sculptor on the package. Kudos, Tim Bruckner! Kudos, DC Direct! |
